Ephesians 4:11-12 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
As ministers we must be sensitive in our spirit to our role in the work of the ministry. What has God called you to do? What has the Spirit of God spoken to you when you were not even trying to think about it?
Don't try to be anything except what He has spoken to you. As your life progresses be quick to obey the voice of God within you. This is of extra importance in the area of taking roles within the Church.
Has God called you to teach? Then be a teacher. Preach? Then be a preacher. Pastor? Evangelist? Then by all means be one.
Too many times men have gotten a general idea to preach and then forced themselves into the most ego gratifying role available. Most of the time Pastor is an easy pick. A few more take it a step further and say well Apostles appoint Pastors so I'm going to be known as Apostle Bob.
There is nothing wrong with God calling you to be a Pastor or an Apostle. But let God do the picking and have enough inner strength to not assume anything one way or the other.
Do you have the humility to appoint the full responsibilities of Pastor to someone else if God leads you that direction? When my wife and I were started Faith in Action Ministries, I never felt a specific call to be Pastor of the organization. She did so I had to let go of the natural tenancy to appoint myself as Lead Pastor. I stepped out of the way and let God give that to her.
It takes a bigger person to give power than to take it. Believe me! You will have to remind yourself of this because it is not comfortable to do the unconventional thing. Great is your reward when you do exactly what God has spoken to your heart.
Meditation: Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. Luke 6:38
Doesn't that apply to the tithe? Yes, and even harder than giving of our money and time... sometimes the more difficult thing to give is position.
